Principal's Message

Govt. College Township, Lahore is a post-graduate institute. It was established in 2003 as a result of the denationalization of Govt. F.C. College, Lahore. When teaching staff and officials from the well-known Govt. F.C. College were shifted to this campus in 2003. it was virtually a wilderness. Today. the college has the honor of being a W' category institution. In 2003, the building was insufficient and there were no laboratories or library. Today the college has well-furnished labs and a well-equipped library With a grant of 3.307 million rupees. a state of the art IT lab. named AI-Khawarzami Lab, has recently been inaugurated. It has the privilege to be the 7th generation computer lab.Ten years ago. there were no lawns and no watering facilities. Today, the college lawns are equal to those of any park in Lahore. At the time of its inception, there were no students, no office, no furniture and no classrooms. but due to the efforts of my former and present colleagues. the entire environment has been changed. The staff is determined to carry the emblem and torch linked with the prestigious Govt. F.C. College. They are setting new trends and new traditions. They did not allow the new institution to be eclipsed by the turn of events.
Today, traditional and modern disciplines like F. A. I F. Sc.. B. A. & B. Sc and M.A. & M.Sc. programmes are successfully going on at Govt. College. Township. We are running I.COM and B.COM disciplines in Morning and Evening Sessions to meet the expanding needs of skilled working class in a growing economy.
We started our journey with five Masters programmes inherited from Govt. FC. College. But in a brief span of time, we have added three more postgraduate programmes, i.e. Islamic Studies, Mass Communication and Psychology. Our Mass Communication Department attracts students and professionals for morning and evening sessions successfully. This success is the result of the untinng efforts of the Chair and the learned teachers. working in the college.

The giant leap forward has been possible by virtue of our teachers who are blessed with immense potential and capabilities. They are cultured, refined and committed to the cause of imparting knowledge, learning and skill. The only thing they needed was to exploit their potential and channelize their energy. When they were provided with the opportunity to become trend setters, they changed the fate of the nascent institution. It is due to team work and high spirit that our journey to excellence is in progress.
It can be said with pride that our progress is not in terms of numbers only, like, increase in the number of students, departments and disciplines. We do not just concentrate on the completion of prescribed course work. Besides quantity, quality has been the hallmark of the learning processes in our college. We believe in character building. We try to ensure that when our youth pass out of this college they should be good citizens and good Pakistanis imbued with socio-cultural and ideological traditions. For this purpose, the college administration has focused on the maintenance of discipline. We never compromise on matters of discipline. We think that it is necessary to keep the learning process smooth. Hence, to develop a liaison with the parents and to ensure their participation in the maintenance of discipline, a committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of a senior professor. Keeping in view the security concerns, strict measures have been taken to provide the participants and the faculty with a safe and congenial learning environment.
I deem it appropriate to mention a distinguishing feature of the institution. GCT has developed a tradition of knowledge-generating activities in the college. During the last four years, the college has organized more than thirty seminars on a variety of themes pertaining to national and international issues e.g. the MFN Status to India, Foreign Aid, Pak-China Relations, Pak-US Relations, Islam & Amn-e-Alam, dash of Civilizations, Inter-faith Harmony, Tolerance & Co-existence etc.
Government College Township has been a hub of co-curricular activities since its inception. GCT has a strong culture of arranging lectures by guest speakers, debate and declamation contests, quiz programmes. mrat and naat competitions, painting & drawing competitions, national song's recitation competitions, essay writing and poetic galas. All these activities are helpful in chiseling the hidden potential of students and bndging the gap between college life and practical life. It is also a matter of pride for me that Iranian Govemment and Embassy has developed a liaison with this college, Acenter Uttaq-e-lran Shanasi, has been established to provide information regarding Iran, Iranian People, Persian Language and Literature. It is only Government College Township among the 497 colleges functioning in the Punjab in which a cultural center of this type has been opened. We are seeking such collaborations with two other friends of Pakistan, i.e. Turkey & China pray that this journey to excenlence may continue. Ameen!
